Job Description

To perform the monthly consolidation of Group financial results, ensuring all inter-company balances are reconciled and that the financial data from various business units is accurate, compliant with IFRS, and ready for management review.

Perform Holding company accounting and administration tasks.

Reports to: Group Financial Manager (GFM)

Key Liaisons: Subsidiary Finance Managers, External Auditors, Group Tax.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Consolidation (The Core Task)

  • Execute the monthly Group consolidation process, including the elimination of inter-company trades, loans, and unrealized profits.

  • Maintain the Group’s chart of accounts to ensure consistency across all subsidiaries.

  • Prepare the monthly "Group Reporting Pack" for review by the GFM and CFO.

  • Convert subsidiary trial balances into the Group reporting format (especially if subsidiaries use different ERP systems).

2. Inter-company Management

  • Manage the Inter-company Matrix: Ensure all Group entities agree on their "due to/due from" balances before month-end closing.

  • Oversight of inter-company interest calculations and management fee recoveries.

3. Statutory Reporting & IFRS Compliance

  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and Interim Results.

  • Draft technical accounting memos or disclosures (e.g., Leases under IFRS 16, Revenue under IFRS 15).

  • Ensure that all subsidiary financial data is compliant with Group accounting policies.

4. Audit & Compliance Support

  • Prepare the Audit File for the Group year-end audit.

  • Provide supporting schedules and lead sheets to external auditors.

  • Assist with the preparation of tax schedules and VAT reconciliations for the Holding Company.

5. Treasury & Cash Management

  • Monitor daily bank balances for the HoldCo and oversee the processing of head office payments.

  • Assist in cash flow forecasting for the Group.

6. Property division financial administration

  • Monitor the Property division’s expenses relative to budget plan.

  • Prepare the monthly rental and utility cost invoices for all owned properties.

  • Monitor the cash collections of the rental book on a monthly basis

  • Assist the external legal counsel on rental debtors handed over for collection

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications: BCom Honours (Accounting) or CTA. Being a newly qualified CA(SA) or an AGA(SA) is highly advantageous.

  • Experience: 2–4 years in a financial accounting role. Experience in a multi-entity environment or having completed articles at a mid to large audit firm is a standard benchmark.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS.

  • Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, complex formulas, and data manipulation).

  • Experience with consolidation software (e.g., CaseWare).

Competencies:

  • Analytical Rigour: The ability to spot a R100k discrepancy in a R100m consolidation.

  • Deadline Driven: Consolidations usually happen in a very tight 3-day window at month-end.

  • Communication: Ability to firmly but professionally chase subsidiary accountants for their data.
