Job Description
The Financial Manager will provide strategic and operational financial leadership to the organisation, ensuring strong financial governance, robust systems and controls, donor compliance, and long-term financial sustainability. The role oversees financial operations, risk management, and compliance to support a healthy fiscal position and operational efficiency.

Key Outputs
1. Financial Leadership & Strategy
· Rebuild and strengthen the organisation’s financial infrastructure, systems, and internal controls to support operational efficiency and sustainability.
· Provide strategic financial input to organisational planning and executive decision-making.
· Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning across enterprise and programme budgets.
2. Donor & Grant Financial Management
· Ensure strict compliance with donor agreements, budgets, and reporting requirements.
· Ensure accurate and timely submission of donor financial reports in line with contractual deadlines.
· Liaise with donors on financial matters, audits, and budget amendments.
· Lead financial input into proposal budgeting and cost recovery models.
3. Financial Systems & Operations
· Ensure appropriate systems are in place for multi-project accounting.
· Oversee balance sheet integrity, payroll, cash flow management, and reconciliations.
· Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
· Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to management.
· Oversee procurement processes in line with donor and organisational policies.
4. Audit, Risk & Compliance
· Lead annual external audits and donor-specific audits.
· Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (e.g. Companies Act, NPO Act, tax, VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL).
· Support organisational risk management and fraud prevention.
· Ensure compliance with funder, regulatory, and internal governance requirements.
5. Team Leadership
· Lead, mentor, and coordinate the finance team to ensure effective delivery of financial operations, reporting, and compliance.
· Foster a high-performance culture and support ongoing professional development.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
CA(SA) or CIMA qualification preferred.
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a senior financial leadership role within the development or non-profit sector.
At least 5 years’ experience in international donor-funded environments with multi-donor compliance.
Proven project and grant accounting expertise.
Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, legislation, and regulations.
Experience in grant management, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Strong management reporting and financial analysis capability.
Experience implementing and working with digital finance systems (e.g. Sage, AI-driven reporting tools).
Demonstrated leadership and people management experience.
Skills & Competencies
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with internal and external parties (e.g. auditors, suppliers, funders).
Sound understanding of financial legislation and compliance requirements.
Payroll management experience and payroll systems knowledge.
Strong business acumen with the ability to analyse and interpret financial data for decision-making.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools, including advanced MS Excel.
Strong report-writing capability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
